Operations Shop/Equipment Manager

Duties and Responsibilities EQUIPMENT PROJECTS

· Serve as a role model in safety, leadership, teamwork and customer satisfaction to ensure the over all efficiency and success of the Company

· Must be a working manager – licensed to operate heavy equipment as necessary, DZ license an asset

· Maintain a daily log of all important activities throughout the day (high level overview of every job start/end, quotes, contact names/phone numbers, on site visits, complex job progress, work stoppage, emergencies, deliveries, pending tasks, employee absence or tardiness etc) and for historical records (in case of customer or employee disputes, forgetfulness or simply as a guide for progress)

· Deliver smaller local aggregate orders by loader on demand throughout the day

· Exceptional organization skills, people skills and communication skills both written and verbal

· Solid understanding of aggregates combined with heavy equipment construction

· Prepare in depth internal and external paperwork pertaining to each project and ensure each team member submits all completed and expected paperwork for invoicing purposes

· Communicate daily with office regarding new job requests by phone-in customers

and keep office well informed of each job

· Provide time and material pricing to customers

· Must report to customers on a regular basis and respond to all emails, texts and phone calls in a timely and efficient manner - must follow through with all customer complaints

· Pursue new job opportunities for the Company especially when workload is lighter

· Maintain quality work and maintain cost control on all projects

· Complete site visits to appraise the scope of work required, make recommendations for equipment, materials, time etc.

· Obtain all necessary permits and licenses including land locates for each job


· Delegate shop repairs

· Supervise shop activity – day to day operations including scheduling, time off requests, etc

· Review vehicle and equipment inspection reports weekly to schedule necessary repairs

· Order parts and shop supplies (issue purchase orders for all purchases)

· Inventory control

· Implement company policies, including shop employee disciplinary action as required

· Must be phone and computer literate (word, excel, email, internet searches, experience with ERP systems and electronic logs an asset

· Ensure there is proper signage identifying parts, hardware and possible health hazards within shop

· Responsible for plate replacements and sticker renewals

· Book emission tests, outside service jobs on fleet, vehicle safety recalls


· Oversee snow maintenance season at all levels (from November to April)

· Coordinate and participate as a team member to plow all businesses each snow fall

· Monitor weather conditions in advance and contact operators and sanders by phone as needed

· Communicate with office daily should adjustments to the plow sheets be required

· Make sure paperwork from all operators is correct/complete and handed in on a daily basis

· Ensure there is an adequate stockpile of salted sand in the yard at all times throughout the winter


· Communicate with office to ensure local deliveries (directed by office) are being coordinated with all equipment projects when necessary

· Oversee all production at the Baldwin Pit including crushing and screening material as needed

· Provide additional aggregate delivery trucks for customers with larger product quantities

· Coordinate drivers to pick up aggregate products from various suppliers for stockpile or delivery

· Ensure the yard is neat, organized and fully stocked with aggregate and soil

· Ensure there is proper signage identifying each stocked product in yard


· Establish good housekeeping and cleanliness both in the shop and in the yard

· Experienced in supervisory/management role

· Conduct daily toolbox meetings

· Ensure safety guidelines are met at all times

· Supervise safe and efficient working of all team members during each project - always aware of potential hazards

· Ensure accident reports are properly completed and all steps are taken to prevent a repeat accident/incident

· Work directly with the Health and Safety Coordinator out of the Nairn Centre division to continuously maintain a valuable safety culture
